Adventure in the Tambopata Jungle
Our day begins with the arrival in Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to the Tambopata National Reserve, one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet.
Upon arrival, the Lorenzo Expeditions team will greet us and transfer us to the river port, from where we will board a motorized boat to navigate along the Madre de Dios River toward our jungle lodge, located in the heart of the Tambopata Reserve.
During the boat ride, we will have the chance to observe the lush Amazon vegetation and, with some luck, see species of wildlife such as turtles, monkeys, and exotic birds. Upon arrival at the lodge, we will be greeted with a refreshing jungle drink, and after settling in, we will enjoy an Amazonian lunch with fresh local ingredients.
In the afternoon, we will embark on a guided walk through the primary forest, where our expert guide will teach us about the Amazon flora and fauna, including giant trees, medicinal vines, and exotic plants. Along the way, we may spot monkeys, toucans, macaws, and other wildlife.
The highlight of the excursion will be reaching an observation tower over 50 meters tall, where we will have an amazing panoramic view of the forest canopy and the jungle sunset.
After dinner at the lodge, we will embark on a nighttime boat ride, using flashlights to search for caimans in their natural habitat. With the help of the guide, we will identify these fascinating reptiles and learn more about their nocturnal behavior.
After this exciting activity, we will return to the lodge to rest and prepare for another day of adventure in the Amazon.
This will be an unforgettable day, where we will experience the magic of the Amazon jungle and discover why Tambopata is a unique natural paradise in the world.
Macaw Sighting and Return to Puerto Maldonado
Our last morning in the Amazon rainforest begins early to experience one of the most spectacular activities in the Tambopata National Reserve: macaw sighting at Collpa Chuncho.
At 5:00 a.m., we will depart by motorboat along the Tambopata River, navigating through the natural reserve while enjoying the sunrise in the jungle. Our destination is the famous Collpa Chuncho, a clay formation on the riverbanks where hundreds of macaws and parrots arrive every morning to feed on essential minerals that help them neutralize toxins in their diet.
From a strategic viewpoint, we will witness this incredible natural spectacle as the birds fill the sky with their vibrant colors and their songs echo through the jungle. Here, we will enjoy an outdoor breakfast, amidst the tranquility of the forest.
After visiting the Collpa, we will sail back to the lodge, where we will have time to rest and enjoy a traditional Amazonian lunch before embarking on the return trip to Puerto Maldonado by boat.

Each traveler is responsible for having insurance that covers medical emergencies, accidents, and high-altitude activities.
To fully enjoy your adventure, it’s essential to travel light and bring only what you need. During the second and third day, when you spend the night in Aguas Calientes before visiting Machu Picchu, we recommend leaving large backpacks at your hotel in Cusco or at our main office.
Original Passport
This document is required for entry to Machu Picchu and other archaeological sites. Without it, you will not be able to access the citadel. Keep it in a safe place, protected from humidity.
Cash (preferably in local currency)
Carry enough cash for additional expenses, such as snacks, drinks, souvenirs, or tips for the guides. In Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu, ATMs are limited and withdrawal fees can be high.
Small Backpack
It should be comfortable and lightweight, ideally with a capacity of 20 to 30 liters. Here, you’ll carry the essentials for the day, such as water, snacks, sunscreen, and important documents.
Personal Hygiene Items
Includes basic items like wet wipes, toothpaste, and a toothbrush. In Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu, there aren’t many options to buy these products, so it’s better to bring them from Cusco.
Sunscreen
The sun exposure at high altitudes is intense, even on cloudy days. A sunscreen with at least SPF 50+ is recommended, preferably biodegradable to protect the environment.
UV Protection Sunglasses
Essential to protect your eyes from the strong sun and reflections on light surfaces. Choose sunglasses with certified UV filters.
Light Clothing for Machu Picchu
The weather in Machu Picchu is usually warm and humid, so breathable and quick-drying clothing is recommended. Bring a light waterproof jacket in case of rain.
Comfortable Shoes or Hiking Boots
The terrain in Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley is uneven and steep. Sturdy footwear with good grip is recommended, and make sure you’ve worn them before to avoid blisters.
Hat or Cap
The sun in the Peruvian highlands is strong, even in the mornings. A wide-brimmed hat or a cap with UV protection is ideal to protect your face and neck.
This tour combines the best of Peru in just six days: the ancient history of Machu Picchu, the high-altitude landscapes of Laguna Humantay, and the unique biodiversity of the Amazon jungle in Tambopata. Before your trip, it’s normal to have questions about tickets, vaccinations, accommodation, or transfers. That’s why we’ve answered the most common questions here so you can travel with complete peace of mind and make the most of this unforgettable experience.
The additional ticket to enter Huayna Picchu costs $60 USD per person. This mountain is famous for offering one of the most spectacular views of Machu Picchu, with a steep but short hike that takes between 45 minutes to 1 hour to reach the summit. It is recommended to have a reasonable level of fitness and not suffer from vertigo, as there are narrow sections with drops. Slots are limited and sell out quickly, so it is essential to book at least 2 months in advance. The experience is definitely worth it if you’re looking for an extra dose of adventure and a privileged view of the archaeological site.
Both mountains offer incredible perspectives, but their routes and difficulties are different.
Huayna Picchu is shorter but steeper, ideal for adventurers looking for an intense climb and direct views of the citadel from the top.
Machu Picchu Mountain, on the other hand, has a longer and less demanding trail, providing a broader panoramic view of the valley and surrounding mountains. It also costs $60 USD extra. The choice depends on your fitness level and the type of experience you want: intense adrenaline or relaxed panoramic views.
Yes, absolutely. All packages for this tour include general admission to Machu Picchu. The agency takes care of managing and booking the tickets to ensure you have a hassle-free experience. You just need to provide your valid passport at the time of booking.
Unfortunately, no. Machu Picchu tickets are personal, non-transferable, and non-refundable, as they are regulated by the Ministry of Culture of Peru. That’s why it’s important to be sure about the dates before making the purchase. It is recommended to purchase travel insurance in case of unforeseen events.
It is not mandatory, but highly recommended. The yellow fever vaccine protects against a viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes and is especially suggested if you are visiting tropical areas such as the Tambopata National Reserve. You should get vaccinated at least 10 days before your trip. The vaccine is valid for 10 years, and it’s important to carry the vaccination card as proof.
The most important thing is to have a valid passport. In some cases, a national identity card (DNI) is accepted for travelers from Andean Community countries, but the passport remains the safest document.
If you change your passport before the trip, you must bring both your old and new passport to avoid issues when entering Machu Picchu and at controls.
The included accommodations are comfortable hotels with private bathrooms, hot water, WiFi, and breakfast.
The room options usually are:
If you want a single room, it can be requested for an additional fee. The accommodations are selected to offer comfort and a good experience, both in urban areas and in the jungle.
Most restaurants accept card payments and Peruvian soles. They also accommodate special diets if informed in advance.
Yes. The package includes courtesy transfers from the Cusco airport or bus terminal, as long as they are coordinated in advance. Night transfers are not available, so it’s best to arrive during daylight hours. You just need to send your flight or bus details to schedule your pickup.
The pre-trip meeting takes place the day before the tour starts, usually at 6:00 p.m. at your hotel. It is a key meeting where the guide will explain the day-by-day itinerary, answer your questions, and remind you of the essential packing list. It’s also the time to review documents and coordinate any personalized details. Not attending this meeting may cause confusion on the day the tour starts.
