Hiking the Inca Trail in September

September is the change of season from winter to spring and is a good option to hike the Inca Trail, although it is not the rainy season, but there will be a little drizzle especially at the end of the month. These are hot days and cold nights.
This month we are entering the low season, there are less tourists than in June or July.

The temperature fluctuates between 10 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius.

At 6 am when Machu Picchu opens is the recommended time to visit the wonder. It can dawn cloudy but in a few minutes it clears up and Machu Picchu is visible for photos.

The hours of the day are longer and the day lasts longer in this month of September, it is also the arrival of the month of spring, from having very dry and cold months to the arrival of wetter months with lots of green and a few rains and there is an increase of birds because it is also the month of mating birds.

Why hike Inca Trail in September?

• Compared to the high season months like June, July, August, September is a month of changes in climate and low season in tourism.
• The sun stays bright every day and the nights are not so cold.
• The sky is cloudy at times with threats of rain but very little.
• Prices in tours, hotels and rides improve and are cheaper.

Why NOT hike the Inca Trail in September?

• Some years in this month the spring rains may come earlier.
• Mosquitoes on the route are decreasing compared to other months.

Recommendations

• Never forget to bring mosquito repellent.
• Also sun block and wide-brimmed hats (hat).
• Book in advance the entrance tickets to Machupicchu and Inca Trail.
• Always bring rain coats because the change of season will cause early rains.
• If you want to visit Huaynapicchu or Machupicchu Mountain it is better to book in advance.
