Inca Jungle Trek + Llactapata 4 days

The first day of the adventure along the Inca Jungle route with connection to Llactapata begins early, with pickup at 6:00 a.m. from Cusco. We will travel by bus to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where we’ll enjoy an energizing breakfast before continuing to Abra Málaga (4,350 m.a.s.l.), the starting point of our journey.

Biking descent: From the Andes to the Jungle

After a safety briefing with our guide, we will receive the full mountain biking equipment. From Abra Málaga, we begin an exciting descent of approximately 3 hours (55 km), passing through impressive landscapes ranging from the snow-capped peaks of the Andes to the lush Amazon rainforest. Along the way, we will cross small streams and feel the climate shift from cold to tropical.

We will make several stops to check the bikes, take photos, and enjoy the landscape. At the end of the biking journey, we will reach the town of Santa María (1,200 m.a.s.l.), where a delicious lunch with local products awaits us.

Rafting on the Vilcanota River (Optional)

In the afternoon, the more adventurous can experience rafting on the Vilcanota River (US$ 40 per person). This thrilling stretch of the river features class III and III+ rapids, ideal for those seeking adrenaline in a spectacular natural setting. To ensure safety, the equipment includes helmets, category V life jackets, and protective suits. This activity is available from April to December and, according to Peruvian regulations, knowing how to swim is mandatory.

At the end of the day, we will rest in a family lodge in Santa María, where we will share with the local community as part of our commitment to sustainable tourism and supporting the economy of the valley’s families.

This first day of the Inca Jungle route with Llactapata combines spectacular landscapes, extreme adventure, and immersion in the local culture, paving the way for an unforgettable experience toward Machu Picchu.

After a delicious breakfast in Santa María, we will start the day with a vehicle ride of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to Lucmabamba, a key point on the route to Machu Picchu. Here, we’ll dive into a unique experience with the local culture by visiting a coffee plantation to learn about the artisanal production process and taste one of the region’s finest organic coffees.

For adrenaline lovers, there will be the option to participate in an exciting zip line activity for $40 USD. Gliding along cables suspended between mountains will allow us to enjoy stunning jungle views and feel the thrill of flying over this incredible landscape.

After lunch, we will begin our hike along an original stretch of the Inca Trail, ascending for approximately three hours through lush vegetation. Along the way, we’ll make strategic stops where our guide will explain the area’s biodiversity, its ecological importance, and how these trails connect to Inca history. At the top of the mountain, we will learn more about the communication system used by the incas through their extensive road network.

The hike will take us to the archaeological site of Llactapata, a little-explored location that offers one of the most spectacular views of Machu Picchu from a unique angle. From here, we can also admire the imposing presence of snow-capped Salkantay in the distance, creating an impressive setting to rest and take unforgettable photos.

After this magical moment, we’ll descend to our accommodation, a cozy lodge in Llactapata, where we’ll be welcomed by local families. Here, we’ll enjoy a homemade dinner prepared with fresh regional ingredients and share a special night in this peaceful, natural environment.

This second day of the Inca Jungle route with Llactapata immerses us in history, adventure, and local culture, bringing us ever closer to our final destination: Machu Picchu.

The day begins with breakfast at our lodge in Llactapata, surrounded by high jungle. From here, we descend for approximately three hours along ancient Inca trails, enjoying panoramic views of the Amazonian vegetation.

Upon arriving at Hidroeléctrica, we go through the entrance control to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. Our guide will provide information about the history and significance of this site, preparing us for the next day’s experience.

We continue walking along the railway tracks toward Aguas Calientes, crossing a landscape surrounded by towering mountains and unique biodiversity. Along the way, we stop at Intihuatana, a small Inca archaeological site, where the guide will explain its possible astronomical and ceremonial function.

Further along, in San Gabriel, we enjoy lunch prepared by a local family (Gonzas), tasting dishes made with fresh regional ingredients. From this point, we have a privileged view of Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu, peeking through the mist and vegetation.

After six hours of hiking, we arrive in Aguas Calientes, the final rest point before our long-awaited visit to Machu Picchu. We check into a hotel to relax after the hike. In the evening, we share the last dinner of the tour, where the guide will give the final instructions for the big day.

This day brings us even closer to our destination, combining adventure, history, and culture in a journey filled with spectacular landscapes. With everything ready, we are prepared to discover the majestic Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

This third day of the Inca Jungle route with Llactapata brings us even closer to our final destination. After a day full of spectacular landscapes, history, and connection with nature, we will be ready for the highlight of the journey: the visit to Machu Picchu.

Our last day starts early with the option to walk to Machu Picchu or take the bus ($12 USD) which will take you directly to the entrance of the Inca city. Once inside, we will enjoy a guided tour of its most important sectors, exploring sacred temples such as the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Three Windows, and the Sacred Plaza, while discovering the history, architecture, and spiritual significance of this majestic sanctuary.

After the tour, you will have free time to continue exploring Machu Picchu at your own pace. If you have booked in advance, you can ascend to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain ($60 USD each), two incredible viewpoints offering panoramic views of the citadel and the surrounding valley. Due to high demand, access is limited to 200 people per day, so it is recommended to book at least three months in advance.

Machu Picchu is not only an archaeological destination but also a place to connect with nature and the energy of the Andes. We recommend taking a moment to meditate, breathe deeply, and absorb the magic of the surroundings.

After the visit, we will descend to Aguas Calientes, where you can have lunch and explore the picturesque town before boarding the train back to Ollantaytambo. From there, we will take our transport back to Cusco, thus completing this unforgettable adventure through the Inca Jungle Trek and Machu Picchu.
