Bring a telephoto lens.

Jaguars and many other species are observed from a distance so as not to disturb their behavior. A telephoto lens will allow you to get closer visually and capture sharp, detailed images without invading their natural space. The longer the focal length, the closer the subject will appear.

Take advantage of the light at dawn and dusk.

Use burst mode and a fast shutter speed.

Wildlife is unpredictable: a jaguar can move quickly, a heron can take off suddenly. Setting your camera to a fast shutter speed (e.g., 1/1000 or higher) and activating burst mode (continuous shooting) increases your chances of capturing the action at just the right moment.
